Ever wondered about the magic that happens in the Dynamic Motion toolpaths in Mastercam? Ever noticed that the toolpath stepover varies inside of the toolpath? In this video I'll explain what's happening and why, and how this makes for a toolpath that can ultimately cut material much faster and more effeciently!
Mastercams Dynamic Motion toolpaths are the go to toolpaths for removing material from your parts quickly. The main reason is the control of the cutters engagement into the material. This allows you to program for the highest performance of a cutter and know that the toolpath will not exceed this. In the older style toolpaths, the cutter engagement could vary leaving you to have to program for the worst case scenario, this resulted in some of the toolpath running at optimum levels and much more running at sub par levels.
This video will take you through evaluating the stepovers created in both Outside-In tool motion and Inside-Out. Next we'll discuss what Tool Engagment Angle is, how it can be calculated, and some geometry creation for a better understanding of tool engagment.
We'll then look at why the toolpaths XY stepover changes during the cut and why this change is different with the two cutting methods, Out-In vs In-Out.
Lastly, we'll bring this all together and discuss why all this is necessary.
