Old Toolpath, New Functions - Swept2D Improvements

Not very often the old toolpaths get some love, Mastercam 2024 has made Swept2D better!

Swept2D has been around for a long time and new toolpaths have made it almost obsolete. Still, there are times when this toolpath is just the best option. One of the downsides of this toolpath has been it choosing whether it wants to zigzag or oneway cut a feature.

There is an addin that allows you to take control of the cutting direction, but I don't think many people knew it existed. The addin is called Swept2R. It also contains an option to add roughing to the Swept2D path.

Now, new for 2024, you no longer need to run the addin to get either the cut direction control or the extra roughing passes option. What makes this extra nice, when using the addin, the resulting toolpath would be locked after the options are applied. This means in order to mess with the cut parameters to get what you're after, you'd have a lot of unlocking, rebuilding, reapplying of the addin, etc etc. Now, with everything built into the toolpath, these settings work the same as any other toolpath setting.

A much needed improvement to a toolpath most have forgotten about. Maybe this little tweak will get more programmers to try out Swept2D for the first time!
