The New Mastercam Drill Interface

8/29/18 6:00 AM / by camInstructor Mike

Here I take a look at the new Drilling interface in Mastercam.

Interface changes have been made for the Drilling toolpath. With these interface changes comes some consolidation of toolpaths as well. The 5 Axis Drill is not part of the normal Drill toolpath. This brings with it the face selection option, as shown in the video. Previously, you needed to use the 5 Axis Drill to access this functionality, which required a license for that toolpath, but now even without the 5 Axis Drilling licence you can use solid face selection. This is what I rank as the biggest perk of the Drilling Interface changes.

With the new interface, there are some changes to the selection methods. There is even a 'live' update of the sorting results during point selection. As you select points/ars/faces, they are added and the sorting pattern is automatically applied. You can see the pattern update graphically.

One downfall is the loss of the 'Entity' button for selection. There are some work arounds if none of the new selection methods work for you....although I think with the solid face selection option the days of wireframe selection for drilling are numbered.

In this video I try to cover as much as possible with the new interface....Mask On Arc, Sorting, Deleting Points, Tolerance settings, Solid Selection, Wireframe Selection, etc.
